CycleOps Joule

Sleek, lightweight and easy to use, CycleOps’ Joule is packed with valuable data to maximize your training. With 35 different field metrics and three "dashboard" screens, you can easily keep track of power, elevation gain, distance, heart rate, TSS, cadence—the list goes on. Being able to view three customized metrics plus two sub-fields on each dashboard diminishes stress and time spent changing screens. Navigating the dashboards and starting/stopping intervals is easy with a few simple, easy-to-hit rubberized buttons, and because the ANT+ compatible Joule keeps historical records for up to a year, you can compare current rides to past performances, making it an invaluable tool for tracking progress on the go.

I bought this computer 2 year ago, so disappointed. First eat battery in a blink of the eye, every month. Second software is a messssss my ride are totally mess top, my ride from 2014 some time go to 2011. Third now I can not erase half of the ride in the computer, and display options do not work any more. I updated all the software and nothing the same problem.

      Great Concept, Terrible Battery Life

      About Me

      Comments:

I bought this computer because I just got a power meter. I really wanted a display that would include intensity factor (IF) so I could pace myself during Ironman. This computer accomplishes that, but battery life stinks as does the corresponding software.

      Good Value

      About Me

      Comments:

I live and die by power (ride/race about 10,000 miles a year). In my opinion, this device is MUCH better than the LYC (little yellow computer) and the Joule 2.0. It has more metrics (than LYC), better battery life (than 2.0) more storage (than 2.0). I have had issues with the battery life (it was lasting 4-8 hours) but it was fixed after a call to CS. Once the battery goes dead - you have to install the new battery upside down - which resets everything. I connect it to my computer and all the original settings are restored. It's not perfect...but for the $$ it's really good.

      Totally Worthless

      Comments:

This is totally worthless. Cadence and Speedometer can't work at the same time which is ok because neither work sepearately. HR monitor doesn't work. Product Guide is worthless. Total waste of money, can't even set the correct time.

      Disappointed!

      By Marko

      About Me

      Comments:

I have been using my Power Tap SL+ for four seasons now and recently 'upgraded' the ugly (imho) yellow CPU with the Joule. What a mistake. I am going back to the old computer and have wasted money I could have spent on something useful. I am going thru a new battery every second week! When I change the battery the unit does not recognise that I have inserted a new one, resulting in a reset and having to enter my base data again every time! Buttons don't always work, even though I hear and feel the click. Limited flexability in customising the display. Particularly in the middle row.

      Nice improvement

      About Me

      Comments:

I discovered the Joule when I purchased a PowerBeam Pro trainer last year, which came with a Joule 3.0. As distance running is my passion, I am trying to improve my cycling skills to stay on the duathlon podiums. Undoubtedly, I prefer the less bulky redesign of the new Joule....its on par with the Garmin Edge. I also find it a bit easier to use than my Edge 500 (which I love). The display is easy to read, and it seems much more reliable than my Joule 3.0 - had a tendency to turn off in the middle of a workout, wouldn't routinely start up. Definitely worth considering if you're considering a comparable Garmin unit. The PowerAgent software continues to be a bit quirky with Mac products, and it remains a disappointment that the Virtual Trainer is not Mac compatible in 2013.

      not for use with trainer

      By surgrunner

      About Me

      Comments:

Caution: this unit is not intended to be used with your indoor trainer. I was hoping to use this to replace the Joule 3.0 as well as a second unit for use outdoors (have a road and tri bike). This unit is only for use outside, thus its worth just getting the Joule GPS. I would only get this unit if I were 1) new to cycling, 2) did not already own a Garmin Edge, and 3) did not already own a CycleOps power trainer for winter use. Despite my disappointment, the CycleOps customer service was, as always, very helpful.

      Very disappointing

      By Bruce

      About Me

      Comments:

The first units my wife and I received didn't connect to the speed/cadence/powercal. Next units connected, however both destroy the CR2032 batteries. We go through one battery each month! Data from rides in 2013 are all messed up! Reflecting 2011 Jan and Feb, before I had the units? So the data from our benchmark rides today can't be sent to our coach. Thanks Cycleops!
